Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival continues its 20th season with the fun-filled, deliciously farcical The Comedy of Errors. It plays Tuesdays through Sundays in the 520-seat open-ended Mainstage tent in Vanier Park from June 10 through September 26, 2009 in repertory with the currently running production of Othello. David Mackay returns to direct following last season’s hugely popular 1920s version of Twelfth Night.
In this rollicking comedy about two sets of twins separated as infants, seeing double leads to hilarity. When Antipholus of Syracuse and his servant Dromio arrive in Ephesus, confusion reigns. Ephesus is the home of their (unknown) twin brothers who happen to have the same names. As wives, lovers, merchants and friends encounter the visitors, mistaken identities lead to merry misunderstandings.
